Amkor Technology to Enforce Patent Rights

CHANDLER, ARIZ., - Amkor Technology (Nasdaq - AMKR) has filed suit against ST Assembly Test Services, Inc. and ST Assembly Test Services Ltd. of Singapore (STATS). The suit, filed in Federal District court in the Eastern District of the State of Texas, alleges infringement of Amkor's United States Patent No. 6,143,981 ('981 Patent). Amkor alleges that by making, using, selling, offering for sale, or the importation into the U.S. of the STATS' Quad Leadless Package, the two defendants infringe on one or more of the 19 separate MicroLeadFrame(tm) packaging technology claims in the '981 Patent.

"Amkor has invested heavily in research and development for semiconductor packaging technology and has placed an emphasis on expanding its intellectual property portfolio in recent years." said John Boruch, President of Amkor Technology. "Amkor is acting to protect the interests of its employees, shareholders and the investment community by bringing the federal lawsuit against STATS." said Boruch. "We will protect our property."

Amkor is represented in the suit by the law firm of Jenkens & Gilchrist of Dallas, Texas.
