Asian exhibitors help to make APEX 2001 a sell-out

Commitments from Asian companies have helped to ensure that APEX 2001 is officially sold out. All 170,700 sq. feet of exhibition space at the IPC SMEMA Council Electronics Assembly Process Exhibition and Conference (APEX), which will take place at the San Diego Convention Center in San Diego, California on 14th -18th January 2001, have now been reserved by 380 of the leading players in the world's electronics assembly market.

Building on the popularity of APEX 2000 amongst Asian visitors, nearly 15 per cent of the floor space for 2001 has been reserved by Asian companies. Asian companies exhibiting at APEX 2001 include: Fuji; Panasonic Factory Automation; Sanyo High Technology; Juki Automation Systems; Samsung Technology; and Seika Machinery

"The high percentage of floor space requested by Asian exhibitors and the speed at which the event has sold out proves that the IPC SMEMA Council has created the premiere trade show in the electronics assembly industry," said Lisa Griffin, IPC director of assembly industry programs.

"APEX was created as a response to an industry need for a trade show that is cost-effective and fair for exhibitors, and highly focused on the products and technologies of the electronics assembly industry. The level of response from Asian exhibitors clearly illustrates that the IPC supports the whole of the industry, not just those that have large budgets."

One exhibitor from APEX 2000 that has signed up again for APEX 2001 is Speedline Technologies. The general manager of Speedline Technologies Asia, Peter Tan, commented, "APEX 2000 was a very successful event. We had a lot of interest from customers and prospects and a large number of visitors to our stand had made the trip from Asia.

"Speedline Technologies Asia will be devoting a lot of personnel and resources to APEX 2001 because we're convinced that once again Asian visitors will use it as the place to find out about the latest information and get an insight into the technologies that will make the biggest impact on our region in 2001."

Visitors at APEX 2000 felt that a visit to the show was both informative and educational.

"APEX was really worthwhile. It was great sharing information with other people in the same boat you're in," said Ed Drouet, senior engineer, The Boeing Co. "The workshops had good content and good presenters. There was enough time to really talk to people. Even the lunches were just right. APEX met and surpassed my expectations."

John Mszal, an engineer at Grayhill Inc, said "The range of courses, the different technologies, it was incredible. The courses I took on Troubleshooting, Stencil Printing, and Reflow were great. We're new to SMT mixed technology and I needed a lot of information. In one seminar, I got it all. It was terrific."

About IPC
The IPC is a US-based trade association dedicated to the competitive excellence and financial success of its nearly 2,600 member companies which represent all facets of the electronic interconnection industry, including design, printed wiring board manufacturing and electronics assembly. As a member-driven organisation and leading source for industry standards, training, market research and public policy advocacy, IPC supports programmes to meet the needs of a US$33 billion industry that employs more than 330,000 people in the United States.

APEX has been organised by the IPC SMEMA Council in response to an industry need for a trade show that is cost-effective and fair for exhibitors, and highly focused on the products and technology of the electronics assembly industry. This approach, coupled with a premier conference program, organised by the industry, delivers the most attractive package to exhibition visitors. APEX features all segments of the electronics assembly industry, from bare boards to tested assemblies.

In advance of APEX 2001, IPC has issued a call for papers, and is seeking papers in all areas of electronics assembly technology. For a complete list of topics, visit the APEX 2001 website at www.apex2001.org. Abstracts for paper presentations are due immediately, and should be submitted with a brief biography by e-mail to Martin Barton, APEX conference director, at martinbarton@home.com. Abstracts should not be faxed.
