Fairchild Semiconductor expands
product offerings in power conversion/ battery management and
signal processing
Acquisitions result in a broader portfolio and enhanced design
capabilities
Fairchild Semiconductor International's two latest acquisitions
are adding more than 550 new products to the company's rapidly
growing analogue business. KOTA Microcircuits and Micro Linear
Corporation's Power Management business have joined Fairchild's
Analogue and Mixed-Signal Group. These acquisitions are additional
examples of Fairchild's commitment to aggressively grow its Analogue
business through innovative product development and portfolio
expansion.
The Micro Linear purchase expands Fairchild's power management,
DC-DC conversion and PFC/PWM-controller IC product offerings.
The acquisition further enhances the company's significant presence
in targeted growth areas such as computing, communications and
handheld/portable applications. Fairchild also complements its
analogue signal-processing portfolio with Micro Linear's video
filters, drivers and genlock/sync generators.
The acquisition of KOTA Microcircuits boosts Fairchild's analogue-signal
processing offering in the cellphone and PDA markets with high-speed
op-amps. Combined, the new product offerings enable designers
to meet the high-frequency and low-power requirements in next-generation
portable products. Fairchild's spectrum of optimised process technologies,
including Bipolar, CMOS, BiCMOS and DMOS, will be used for continued
innovative development for all analogue and mixed-signal applications.
"Over the last two and a half years, Fairchild has significantly
broadened its portfolio of power management, signal processing
and data conversion solutions," said Eric Kuo vice president
for Sales and Marketing at Fairchild Semiconductor Asia Pacific.
"This portfolio targets Asia's fastest growing markets, telecommunications,
computing, and portable products, with innovative solutions for
battery management, power regulation, motor control, and system
supervision.
Through new product development and acquisitions, the company's
analogue business is now fourth in the power IC marketplace and
has grown rapidly over the past three years.
Fairchild's design expertise includes MCU, PWM, LDO and programmable
devices. Fairchild's Analogue solutions perform over a full range
of voltages and currents from high-voltage off-line switching
to low-voltage regulation and micropower. Fairchild will continue
to develop leading edge solutions by combining complementary signal
processing functions, system-smart micro-controller/memory elements
and innovative packaging technologies.
