Fairchild launches battery
charging controllers for Li-ion batteries
FAN7564 integrates LDO and Vref interface for microcontroller-controller
charging applications
Fairchild Semiconductor International has introduced
two battery-charging controller ICs that provide constant-current
and constant-voltage charging of Li-ion batteries used in handheld
applications, such as cellphones, PDAs and consumer products.
The FAN7563 and FAN7564 operate from 2.5 V to 16 V and provide
end-of-charge current control. The FAN7564 implements an LDO
control function and delivers driving output that can be used
with an external transistor to provide a regulated supply for
a microcontroller. Either the FAN7563 or FAN7564, used in conjunction
with Fairchild's FSDH0165 Off-line Switcher, implements a complete
charging solution.
Both devices' charging profiles are tailored for Li-ion batteries.
The FAN7563 supports travel charger designs and the FAN7564
supports both travel and desktop chargers. Integrated charging
functions include end-of-charge dv/dt detection and reduced-current
trickle charge.
The FAN7563 is available in 8-lead SOP packages for US$0.88
each, in quantities of 1,000 pieces. The FAN7564 is available
in 14-lead SOP packages for US$0.98 each, in quantities of 1,000
pieces.
