Fairchild expands TinyLogic(tm) portfolio with the addition of
four new dual 3-state buffers

Smallest available leaded package for dual logic functions

Fairchild Semiconductor International's Interface and Logic Group continues to provide designers with innovative Logic solutions in the smallest leaded packages available. The addition of four new CMOS 3-state dual buffers in the US8 package have particular value in portable battery powered devices such as cell phones and mobile computers.

By assuming a high impedance output when the downstream function i.e. ASIC is disabled, current drive for a logic high or low is avoided, and battery power is conserved. The new NC7WZ125K8 and NC7WZ126K8 functions are dual non-inverting buffers with an active high and an active low, respectively, to enable the high impedance state. The NC7WZ240K8 is a dual inverting buffer with active low enable for the high Z state, while the NC7WZ241K8 dual buffers version combines independent 125 and 126 functions within the same package.

These ultra high-speed devices are fabricated with advanced CMOS technology to achieve superior performance with high output drive while maintaining low static power dissipation over a broad VCC operating range. Specified to operate over the 1.65V to 5.5V VCC operating range, the inputs and outputs are high impedance when VCC is 0V. Inputs tolerate voltages up to 5.5V independent of VCC operating range, while outputs tolerate voltages above VCC when in the 3-STATE condition. In addition these devices have the high-speed characteristics of TinyLogic UHS family, TPLH and TPLL speed is 1-2ns typ at 3.3 V, 5.7ns max, making these ideal for use in high-speed computing devices. Skew between buffer outputs is also specified at 1ns maximum.

The US8 package measures just 2.0 mm x 3.1 mm, including the leads, with a maximum height of 0.7 mm. Compared to 14 lead TSSOP package devices, these dual buffers in US8 packages require 1/5 of the customer's board mounting area making them ideal for use in compact low profile systems such as laptops, cell phones, digital cameras, PDAs and PCMCIA cards.

The new logic functions are priced at US$0.34 in 10,000-piece quantities. Samples and production quantities are available.
