IPC releases new 'Introduction
to Electronics Assembly' reference manual for Asian visitors
to APEX
IPC, organiser of the popular APEX event -Electronics Assembly
Process Exhibition and Conference, which will take place at
the San Diego Convention Center in San Diego, California on
16th -18th January 2001, has launched a 32-page, full colour,
spiral bound Desk Reference Manual that introduces and explains
electronics assembly in straightforward language.
Aimed at a wide range of personnel, including operators, sales,
purchasing, human resources, administrative personnel, students,
and anyone interested in understanding the basic processes for
both through-Hole and Surface Mount Assembly, the reference
manual will be a useful tool for Asian visitors considering
a trip to APEX in 2001.
The IPC-DRM-53 includes more than 70 colour photographs and
graphic drawings to clearly illustrate assembly technologies.
To help simplify industry jargon, key terms are defined in a
glossary. The manual also explains where electronics assembly
fits into the electronics industry as a whole.
"The electronics sector is one of the fastest growing industries
in Asia and every day more and more people have to get to grips
with the complex issues associated with electronics assembly,"said
John Riley, IPC vice president of Professional Development,.
"The manual presents a wealth of information in an easy-to-understand
format that can be appreciated by a very wide audience. In particular,
Asian personnel will find it interesting because it covers the
advanced technologies that are being implemented across the
region today.
"Engineers already understand all of these issues, but
with the rate of growth in the electronics industry in Asia,
they need more and more support staff to enable them to maintain
the high levels of productivity. By introducing this guide and
also encouraging Asian visitors to attend APEX, the IPC is ensuring
that all personnel in the electronics industry are kept up-to-date
with the latest technologies."
Section topics in the reference manual include: industry overview;
introduction to electronics assembly; electronic components;
interconnections; ESD; assembly processes; incoming inspection;
through-hole assembly; automatic insertion; manual insertion;
wave soldering; hand soldering; surface mount assembly; solder
paste application; component placement; reflow soldering; adhesive
application; cleaning; electrical test; rework and repair; conformal
coating; final system assembly.
The IPC DRM-53 Introduction to Electronics Assembly is priced
at US$20.00 for members and US$30.00 for non members. A sample
for download is available at the Online Resource Center which
is located at the IPC website www.ipc.org.
About IPC
The IPC is a US-based trade association dedicated to the competitive
excellence and financial success of its nearly 2,600 member
companies which represent all facets of the electronic interconnection
industry, including design, printed wiring board manufacturing
and electronics assembly. As a member-driven organisation and
leading source for industry standards, training, market research
and public policy advocacy, IPC supports programmes to meet
the needs of a US$33 billion industry that employs more than
330,000 people in the United States.
APEX has been organised by the IPC SMEMA Council in response
to an industry need for a trade show that is cost-effective
and fair for exhibitors, and highly focused on the products
and technology of the electronics assembly industry. This approach,
coupled with a premier conference program, organised by the
industry, delivers the most attractive package to exhibition
visitors. APEX features all segments of the electronics assembly
industry, from bare boards to tested assemblies.
In advance of APEX 2001, IPC has issued a call for papers, and
is seeking papers in all areas of electronics assembly technology.
For a complete list of topics, visit the APEX 2001 website at
www.apex2001.org. Abstracts
for paper presentations are due immediately, and should be submitted
with a brief biography by e-mail to Martin Barton, APEX conference
director, at martinbarton@home.com.
Abstracts should not be faxed.
